Chicago
We got back from a four-day (and then some) whirlwind trip to Chicago, Thursday through Monday. As my mother said, it now seems like a dream…like we were never there.
Nana seems much better. She was transferred to a rehab nursing facility where they’re attempting to help her become stronger again. She does a couple hours of therapy every day, and lays in bed for the rest of it.
I was so happy to see Nana the first time Sara Jane and I went, last Thursday. She was sleeping when we arrived, so we tuned into the idiot box for a spell. When Nana woke up, it was apparent that she was just as delighted to see us as we were her. She was a bit groggy initially, but quickly came to and seemed nearly as “normal” as she ever has. The relief this brought to my own heart is really inexplicable.
My aunt pulled me aside and told me that she didn’t know what I had done, but should she ever become sick herself, I better come visit ![]()
Mum spent most of our visit recuperating. Both she and my aunt had been running themselves ragged between their own jobs, other loved ones, and the like. I’m glad SJ and I could provide her with some relief for a few days.
There wasn’t much socializing other than that which we did with Nana. McKenzie was kind enough to let us crash at her place after we had spent the day in airport hell, but other than that, our trip was confined to the most luxurious Joliet, Illinois (please note sarcasm).
I’m a bit tired myself. Emotionally exhausted. I think the trip brought a lot of baggage to the surface, though I’m not quite sure how to elaborate on it at this point. I’m looking forward to a weekend at home, where I’m hoping to find some solace.
